Bash Avid Media Composer Compatible with Vista?

Not really a question, I know it is not, but does anyone know how to make it work with vista, or when Avid will be releasing the update?

Thanks.

Honestly, I would go back to XP on that machine. Avid's not one to release patches for updated software and such, at least not in a timely manner. They just started "supporting" (read: vaguely acknowledging the existence of) ATI graphics cards a couple of years ago. With that beefy of a program you're definitely not going to want to run in any sort of compatibility mode either.

I was just going to say...when you get avid working properly, turn off all updates and unplug the computer from the net!!!

I loved my Avid when I had it, but they take FOREVER to update. If you really ever read the large books they give you, they recommend you only install avid and never install anything else on that computer..not even photoshop.

The newest version, 3.0, supports Vista Business and 64-bit too, I think. Avid MC 3.0 will disable the Aero interface when you launch it; MC wants the resources.

If you are running 2.8.3 or older versions, stay away from Vista and stick to XP Professional as your OS.

Avid is very demanding and particular in the hardware and OS department - as you have probably already discovered. Awesome editor though.

I never have my Avid plugged into the net, I treat that computer as an Island. I don't think there is a need to update if your Avid and computer are working fine...the only time I hooked it up to the net was to update from Express Pro to Media Composer online and through AVID. I am currently running Media Composer 3.0 on Windows XP and have never had a problem or have updated MC. Next week upgrade my entire system including my tower. I will be running Windows 7 with Media Composer 5.

Score on the MC5 man, how are you liking it?

I still am running 3.5 on my Vista Custom build machine.

This machine is loaded though, Adobe cs3 Master Collection, Audition 3.0, MC 3.5, TMPGEnc 4.0, etc.

It is a stinking work horse man.

I want to upgrade to CS5 and MC5 at the same time, when I get the money I will do it in one fell swoop!

Get it in 2 days...

Today I picked up my new camera (XDCAM EX3) and in 2 days I get the new MC 5 and HP Z400 Workstation...it's been a long wait since payment but the anticipation is exciting! Once I have had a good play with both I'll post some thoughts.
