I don't think Christian organizations should endorse commercial films.
But I *do* think we should use them as tools.

Paul didn't endorse pagan poetry or worship at pagan altars,
but he quoted from both of them when speaking.

Mark Batterson wrote a very interesting piece in his blog about Church and Culture (including movies).

http://www.evotional.com/2007/04/decoding-culture.html

Of the 4 responses to culture Mark writes about (ignore it, condemn it, copy it, create it), Tim, I think you're along the lines of creating it by using this as a tool. I like your response. Its definitely difficult to determine how to respond to things in culture that may not line up perfectly with what we believe, but taking it head on and addressing and and using it/changing it seems to me to be the best approach.

I suppose I'm endorsing the USE of the movie more than the movie itself considering I'm just now going to actually see it today (although I expect to be throughly entertained). It's not my job to endorse or not endorse movies. However, my job IS to encourage the use of media as a communication tool -- and from what I've seen from www.arkalmighty.com this movie is PERFECT for that.

I wonder how many people are NOT going out of their way to be extra kind to people just because Evan Almighty offends them. I know that CMN's ArkAlmighty site is not doing anything....

It's in our $2 theater now, so it's not too late to use the movie materials from www.ArkAlmighty.com -- and I suppose when it's on DVD it could be used then; but I feel it was a lost opportunity for those who didn't make the most of it when the movie was at its peak. Just my opinion.

The time is just coming for us, Judging the reactions on this site I know almost what to expect with it's release...
Bit of a heads up, you know.

Just re-downloaded the materials, and put a suggestion to my youth group leader, that we see it as a group.
