Help - - AKG D5!!!

Hi

First time posting - - been around board for a while!

We have purchased a AKG D5 mircophone - following reading reviews etc and it appearing to be a great work horse and all rounder.

However, we seem to be having alot of HANDLING noise... this is something alot of the reviews say will not happen.

Do I have a bad mic - - is this a one off? Anyone else have problems?

Thanks
Chris

Are you sure it's not an undersized XLR wobbling around in the end of the mic?

I had a quick look on a few internet sites that were reviewing the AKG D5. Most of them stated the low handling noise capabilities of this microphone - with only one saying that it was susceptible to handling noise.

The AKG website itself contains the following statement:-

"The dual shock mount eliminates any kind of mechanical noise for trouble-free live use. The audience will hear nothing but the pristine sound of your voice!".

From that, I would conclude that the AKG D5 should not exhibit significant mechanical handling noise. As Tim has already said, check the you have a good quality connector - and that the balanced microphone cable is fit-for-purpose (I had a faulty mic. cable once that sounded like handling noise - one of the cores was internally broken).

Failing that - the microphone should be under warranty so I would contact the seller in the first instance with an MP3 recording of the problem. Hold out for a replacement.

Thanks all - this mic was purchased from a well known Church media supplier in the UK... have called them this morning... they are sending a 2nd mic to try and if this new mic has no problems send back the original... if both are bad - - they will refund.

I have a feeling we have a bad mic, as the other local Elim church to us are using 10 of these with no problems! The one I loaned from them was great.

Thanks for the advise all.

Chris

It sounds like you use a reasonable supplier - and the fact that you have heard and used some without problems also makes me think that you have a "Friday afternoon" microphone!

I see you are in good old Birmingham. I went to the University of Aston in my youth so I know the area well.

Good luck with your replacement microphone.

And now we know..... turns out we weren't using a D5 first off - - the first mic they sent was a P5, in error - - - not a good mic.... to be honest I should have spotted it... the mic says P5 in big white letters DOH!!!

I was about to say it sounds nothing like the D5's i've used, and i've used lots of them.

Glad you got the situation sorted out.
