EV 457 replacment for broken grip

I have 4 EV 457's that still work just fine, but the "elastomeric" hand grips are all broken, cracked, and scratched.

I'm trying to think of a way to replace them. The only place I saw oem parts for this wanted something like 30 dollars apiece....for just a bit o' plastic.

Any thoughts are appreciated. I'm looking into plastic, clay, or anything else that might be molded into the right shape.

The original grips were designed as a sleeve, but I see no reason the replacements couldn't be secured in place permanently.
