Disinfecting mics

What do you use to disinfect your mic screen? Aerosol lysol, rubbing alcohol,... ? I'm at a loss right now as to what would be the best. A couple of our singers got over some nasty stuff and I don't want it to creep back up again...

Never thought of that. In my decade in the industry I have never seen anyone disinfect them.

I use Lysol wipes on mine. Only if someone is really "nasty" sick (that shouldn't be singing anyway) do I spray Lysol on them as that usually deteriorates the foam.

Use a wipe not a spray.

http://www.maxiaids.com/products/489...Canister-.html

Can be used on hearing assist earbuds, countryman tips, etc that have rubber or silicone parts.

I think you are more apt to get the flu from spots where talent holds the mic. Simply wash
hands often.

One of our singers quipped at me when she had a cold that germs only last for 6 hours on the surface of a mic grill.

I don't know if she is right or has credibility but I guess time can tell.

depends on the "germ"
According to a Clorox Classroom publication, "germs" can survive up to 72 hours on surfaces. http://www.cloroxclassrooms.com/down...r_brochure.pdf

However, if the directions on the disinfectant aren't followed, it does no good.

Lysol spray, for instance, will kill 99.9% of everything, including HIV, HepB, HepC, however, the surface needs to be evenly "wet" and allowed to dry completely on it's own by evaporation, not wiping.

My daughter just had a liver transplant so her immune system is compromised. They were wiping them down but decided to get her a "dedicated" mic no one else uses.

Yeah Cory I know all sorts of random stuff about that because my roommate in college used spray all the doorknobs, light switches, etc until they were "evenly wet" and no one could touch them for 10 minutes.

Joseph, I am facing a transplant one day so I totally feel for your daughter. You guys have to take every precaution.

For whatever it's worth - she is 100% better.
Took about 2-3 months of recovery time but she can drive again, is able to do things on her own (like take care of my grandson).
She really got her life back. I'll keep yours in prayer.
