The newest Apple TVs only stream, but the previous generation have hard drives in them and can work standalone or stream from iTunes. We use the previous generation. We create out video loop and covert it to H.264. We pull up that h.264 file in QuickTime and set it to loop, then we drag it into iTunes and sync our AppleTVs. At that point, the video files now reside on our AppleTVs (located beneath the base of each HDTV stand) so we just turn on the TVs and use our little Apple remotes to navigate to the video and ht play. Those videos will play 24/7 until we upload the next week's loop. We turn off the TVs every night, but never turn off the AppleTVs (no reason to.)
