USB or PS2

Hello, we are using Media Shout at Church, have been for years, we use the Honeywell Power Presenter RF to control it for about two years now. Over the past few months, randomly we will lose communication, somewhere. We have tried reboots, reprogramming and so on. There doesn't seem to be a real pattern anywhere.

Today, it went out again, our Worship Pastor, unplugged the USB and plugged it back in and it started working again without reprogramming the remote. I noticed it comes with a PS2 option, is anyone using the RF with PS2? Any suggestions, thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Give it a try and see if it helps. What do you have to lose?

I will, just wanted to see if anyone ran into a similar situation or knew of any advantages or disadvantages of using PS2 for the RF receiver.

Thanks.

Just remember that PS/2 ports are emphatically NOT plug-and-play, hot-plug or hot-swap. You absolutely must connect/disconnect PS/2 ports while the machine is powered down. Plugging/unplugging PS/2 ports with the power on runs the risk of destroying the port's electronics. And since PS/2 ports are not plug-and-play, the devices connected to them are detected only during the NTDETECT operation before Windows boots up.

USB is hot-swappable, which is a HUGE advantage.

If I were you I certainly would consider and test the PS/2 option, just to see if it's more reliable.

Roger

P.S. Some people will tell you they have successfully gotten away with treating PS/2 ports as if they were plug-and-play and hot-swappable. Good luck with that.

Very good points Roger, I agree and understand that PS2's are not hot swappable. I was talking to our Pastor of Worship Ministries and he is going to try to find the PS2 cable. I am on tech duties this Sunday so I will know more then.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the info.

RF Remote problems

we use that same remote; Honeywell sent me specific instructions to program for MediaShout; still had issues; seems it was not unplugging the remote before turning off the computer. Now, the rule is that the remote must be unplugged before closing MediaShout and not plugged in until MediaShout is open. That has greatly reduced problems. However, the pastor carries a spare and if one doesn't work, he starts with the other. I have never been able to determine why one stops. It will work just fine the next time. I tell him it's just him; they don't like him.
