MediaShout/PPT2007 issue and answer

Hi all,
I'm fairly proficcient with MS but not too good with PowerPoint. I had a little something happen last week that I thought I'd share here. I lost some sleep over it, maybe this will help you not lose any!

Someone brought a PPT that was created in PPT2007 to insert into the script. It just would not work. My PC only has PPT 2003, but it's updated with the latest compatibility packs, etc. What I had to do to make it work wasn't hard at all, but it took me quite some time to find the answer. First I opened the PPT2007 file (which had been saved as a ppt, not a pptx), selected all and copied. I then opened a new ppt file and pasted it in, worked like a champ.

Hope this helps someone!

Ken

another option:

Open the ppt and save it as a group of jpgs instead of the ppt file, then inmport them as graphics.

Of course, not everyone is anti-animation.

I refer you to the rules for video editing....

80% cuts
10% fades
0% star wipes

Boooooooooring! If news shows adhered to those rules they would look a LOT different. They use a ton of special effects. Church presentations are often "news oriented" (like... the Good News ).

I was being a bit sarcastic. I think some animation is good. Just not what some people do in ppt.

Me too. You'll note I did have a smiley.

I was just trying to point out that while you do gain performance doing that, you also lose some function.

And I have yet to use a star wipe in PPT. (Haven't found that in the transition list. )

Phil recommended this to me a while back and it has been great for me. The slides open and transition so much smoother than if they were slide shows. I too am a fan with of less is more for the sermon slides. I'll do a little more with announcements and other areas.

Yes, the jpg as a stable "plan b" was in place early in the game. But as much as I disliked the original ppt that used every transition (it seemed) available to ppt, it wasn't my position to quit at plan b. She was very proud of her work and I felt obligated to present it as given...well, not so much. I had to go in and change font size/color and backgrounds so they'd look okay with projection. I mean black text on white background doesn't work well in our environment. She DID stick with the same font throughout

I certainly agree about animations and transitions within a church service setting. We use mediashout / ppt for VBS. It would be great to have the animations for the slides to add to the energy of VBS. While obviously not critical, it just adds to the fun!

My experience with Mediashout this VBS has been nothing but disappointing. We are on the most current version of 3.5 and it can't even appear to handle 2 dvd sources for the videos we play. ...After reading all of the issues with v4, it's definately about time to review our options for a more versitle product.

MediaShout 4.5 is really nice (they finally did a great job with incorporating all of the bells and whistles - and everything works as advertised out of the box). I've been using MS since version 3.0 and can truthfully say that this is the best version yet (the DVD handling alone is worth it).

More MS - PPT issues

Looking for other solutions to the PPT/MS issue.
Small church with single computer (and user) for audio-visual presentation, recording and web site posting Using Vista Bus Ed with MS 3.5 installed and upgraded. PPT 2007 installed.
Pastor makes own sermon PPT presentations; if "recycled", the original PPT was built with PPT 97. If not, then he uses PPT 2003. I build all other PPT using PPT 2007.
All was well until recently when Media Shout locked up when any & all PPT cues were followed by a graphics cue. And PPT presentations started with a black set of screens before displaying properly.
I have had several exchanges with MS support with several suggestions (see below), now waiting for me to replace PPT 2007 with PPT 2003.
So far: System restore to remove Vista and Apple quick time & iTunes update, Uninstall & reinstall PPT 2007, Uninstall MS 3.5 & all updates following MediaComplete directions. Each "fix" ---> no change.
Has anyone had similar issues with MS locking up? How did you fix that?
Does anyone have any suggestions? AKA HELP!!
