Codec needed for .mov files

What codec is needed to play .mov files in MS 2.5 and 3.5? I've read that it will play these type files with the right codec. I have installed several different codec in the past and have been able to get MS 2.5 to play .mov files. Does 3.5 do a better job? Thanks,

Ken

.mov is the Apple Quicktime format and are not natively supported in MS. The usual workaround is to install the Quicktime Alternative codec on your system. A quick Google search should help you locate it - you can load it as standalone as as part of a larger Codec pack such as the K-Lite Mega Pack

I suppose its always possible that it is a newer .mov format with encoding that doesn't work as well with the Quicktime Alternative codec. One thing you might try if you can't get it to work is to transcode the file into a format that is supported (MPEG or WMV for example) by MS or the codecs you do have.
