Mediashout and WMV problems

I've had this problem lingering since I've been using mediashout exclusively (about 6 months).

I often prefer to use WMV files for stuff. Using Premiere Pro 1.5 I render out to either 640x480 or 320x240 depending on content. Mediashout will always play my WMV 320x240 files just fine. My presets are identical except for the resolution. When Mediashout plays my 640x480 files it may play it correctly the first time (it's unpredictable) but more than likely it will begin to play it for a second and then the audio will stop and the video will play at 2x realtime.

Also a new problem I've had is when I load a video it says it can't load, i forget the exact language. Even though it tells me that it almost always is fine.

Does this sound like codec problems on that machine? Has anyone else seen these two issues? BTW I'm running the latest updates and such. I've been contemplating wiping it anyway so i figure that would be ideal if it were a codec issue.

Ben

I've had plenty of success with WMV in mediashout, but your better bet is to try exporting to DV-AVI. I've had the best success with that format.

Sometimes it can be hard to tell if it is a codec problem or something else. Do you have the same issue with other worship software as well? Both Easyworship and SongBeamer seem to be very good at playing videos. But then again SongBeamer appears to be the program of choice for playing certain video files (at least on my PC). I suggest that you give it a try so you will know if it is an issue with Mediashout or with your PC.

I've used DV-AVI before plenty of times but i generally have smoother playback results with a more compressed format which sound ridiculous. The PC i'm running is 2.1 ghz with 1gb of ram but 2.1ghz is below the recommended specs. So I know in a few months, next budget year, an upgrade is in order.

Yea, I'm not certain if its MediaShout or my PC. Windows Media Player or Winamp plays any WMV fine.

Another suspect I'm remembering now is that I'm running an older PCI card for my primary adapter and a ATI 9800PRO AIW for my secondary. So I'm thinking it doesn't like the primary card even being in the system.

We use MediaShout and wmvs exclusively, as it doesn't feel reliable with anything else. The problem you're having sounds like a codec issue - if you can play other video types in MediaShout, but just don't want to, that's a good indication.
...Of course, this info may be deemed no good, because we're running 2.5, not 3 - version 3 of MediaShout won't load any video on our PC.

If it was a codec issue then the lower resolution wmv would have the same issues. I don't think that Windows Media Player or WinAmp have support for a second display adaptor, so that is a different story.
What happens if you reduce the color depth of the second display adapter to 16bit?

Thanks for the reminder, I forget all about their forum. I saw one note at least about WMV that'll be worth a try,

Hmmm. I wonder what's on Ben's mind that would make him forget something like that.

We meet in a movie theater so we're using a Dell Inspiron 9100, P4 3GHz, 1GB RAM and had trouble playing longer dv-avi files. My understanding is MediaShout v.3.1 plays exclusively through Windows Media Player. We're still using Premiere 6 and have been exporting movies as dv-avi and then importing them into Windows Movie Maker (no, not thrilled). From within WMM, we export to the 'best format to play on my computer' and using that .wmv in MediaShout. The sound/video quality isn't as great as the .avi files, but we haven't had a glitch in our presentations since.

If you have any suggestions about playing DVDs in MediaShout without loosing brightness, random pausing every few seconds, and very low audio--let me know.

We gave up on all video in MediaShout some time ago. Our experiences were just never consistent and it was too frustrating to have someone create a video clip and then ruin the moment with problems. So we burn everything to DVDs.
