Help with logo ideas

I am a baptist missionary in Portugal and our church is considering logo design. Our church's name is just the name of our town followed by the denomination - Igreja Evangelica Baptista de Braga (Braga Evangelical Baptist Church) so there is no help offered by the name (i.e. Rocky Mountain Baptist or Living Waters or Cross Baptist Church). Therefore, any ideas on a simple yet attractive logo? Thanks in advance.

What is the church's mission? What things are most important to the people of the church? What do you want people to think of when they see your logo?

Gene...We are working on defining our mission statement, but as it stands now evangelism (local and foreign missions) is a large emphasis in our church. We are "regional" church with 5 congregations. As far as the things that are important to the church folks, I would say evangelism and communion (love, fellowship, etc.) When people see our logo, we want them to think of love and a desire to express that love by our works. The biggest barrier in my mind is the actual name of the church and how to display it - Igreja Evangélica Baptista de Braga. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Maybe something as simple as a variation on your current web logo, with the wax in the shape of Braga (as attached). And the tagline in Portuguese, of course
