I'm on the third floor as well. Had a sighting of SoundDudeDave's family earlier.

I'm going to try to visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Monday morning. Key word is try. Parking around the area would appear to be problematic.

We're going to try to get down to the Washington Monument and a couple of the memorials as well, but I've been told over and over how horrible the traffic is. It can't be that much worse than Chicago, can it? Maybe I'll go search public transportation.

Well, I spent 4 years there in the 80's.

You definitely need to go to "the mall" during your stay. See the Washington Monument, the Wall, the Lincoln Memorial, and part of the Smithsonian during the day.

In the 80's the subway was the way to go, and I have been told that it is still very safe and clean. All the lines converge downtown DC, so you should have no problems getting there.

Just my thoughts from someone who is having to remain in Houston this year.

The best way to visit The Mall is definitely to find an outlying Metro station and take the metro in.
