I second that. Everytime I visit DC, I stay somewhere outlying and take the metro to the mall, spend the day and then come back. never had a problem.

Besides that, taking the metro is a lot of fun (if you don't get to ride one very often). I think the escalators down to the metro are amazing. Also, there are quite a few movies that have scenes from the metro area (Pelican Brief for one). I guess I'm easily entertained.
