ACP88 on mains

New church that I am attending has an interesting compressor setup. ACP88 using compressor for 5 channels of drum kit, 1 Countryman on pastor and 1 for mains. Also using a Driverack 260 for signal processing downstream of the ACP88.

They have been experiencing issues of low GBF on pastor even with the use of the E6.

Opinions on the use of the ACP on the mains and on the pastor's mic? My personal direction would be to pull the plug on compressing the mains.

We have an ACP88 on the main as well, and we only use it as a hard limiter at like 90 or 95 dB.

I'd pull the compression from the mains as well. The DriveRack should have a limiter on it. Compressing the mains reduces the dynamic range, increasing noise floor and reduces GBF.
I'd compress the pastor's mic only if he's got extreme dynamics, would set it up with a high ratio with no make up gain.

Double compression can make interesting things happen. I'd bypass it at least temporarily and see if that alleviates problems or not. I've done both channel and group compression at the same time before, but that was on vocals for one musical and intentional, the group compressors set up with a high threshold, to take a very little bit of the top edge off of company numbers.

Yes, compress the mic, not the mains.

Is the E6 mic near the skin, close to the pastor's mouth? I've seen people using mics like this where the mic is several inches away form the face, pointing away. You want it as close as you can without it actually being in the mouth.
