Ring from lapel mics

I get this annoying high pitched ring (not feedback) when using lapel mics. I don't get it when using wireless or wired handsets or any other mic.

The ring is hard to describe. It's very faint and is probably unnoticed by most people, but I hear it and it's driving me crazy.

Any idea what this might be?

If it makes any difference the lapels are Audio-Technica AEW-T1000.

On the transmitter, in the menu, there is an attenuation (-4dB, -6dB, -8dB, -12dB) feature. If the attenuation is all the way down, you may be hearing carrier frequency because the signal is attenuated so much.

Thanks for your reply.

Please pardon my stupidity. The "Audio Input Level" on my transmitter is set at +6dB. Does that sound right? What about "RF Power?" Mine is set to Low.

You can try setting it to "hi" and see what happens.
As long as you're not experiencing any distortion, and not knowing what element you're using with it, it's fine.

I'll give it a try. Thanks so much!

Next questions are:
How long has this been happening?
What frequencies are they on?

I'm going on my second year here and it has been present off and on the entire time.

The frequencies are in the 540's. I have 6 of these particular bodypacks. I can post specific frequencies if it helps.

Nope. The noise is present even with the monitors off.

Is the noise present only when there's an audience? If so, you may be hearing feedback from someone's hearing aid.

Is the sound only present when the person and the mic are in a particular place on stage?

I'm thinking that it's quite possibly resonant reflections and as you move around on stage you could be hearing more or less depending on where you stand. Which means that the mic will pick this up more or less depending on where the person wearing it stands.

Let us know.
