Audio Primer

Hello All!

I will be doing a clinic for our youth ministry musicians, sound operators, ministry leaders on sound. I would like to have something to put in their hands as a reference.

I remember a great online .pdf on the Roland site (years ago) about mixing and board basics including some great explanations of the knobs and faders. Does anyone know of a good 'primer' for this purpose.

I can explain everything to them, but as you know, it's a lot for the un-initiated to retain.

I also plan on using some of the diagrams out of the mackie manuals which are pretty good, as well.

Thanks in advance!

The Yamaha Sound Reinforcement Handbook, though very dated, is still very good as a launching point.

Find some visual way of representing how a sound tech is like a conductor of an orchestra...and most of all make it fun.

The Yamaha book is a good one for the bookshelf. It's technical, and I think also somewhat introductory to operation.

I wrote a little primer of that nature a year or so back; I'll find a copy and stick it out on the web somewhere. Might even be there already.

Kbob, thanks for the tip, I may get the church to pick that one up as a reference. For this clinic deal, however, I'm going to need something more 'primer' or 'outline' based.
Wayne, I look forward to seeing your primer!
Richard, Thanks! I remember using one of theirs a few years back.

For beginners of every age, I use this book to not overwhelm them, and yet cover the most important audio concepts.

All the industry standard books are good for hard-core students. Anything with "Live Sound" in the title.
