We'll have an Ash Wednesday Service on Wednesday night. The preacher will be available from 7am to 9am for the imposition of ashes on a 1:1 basis. Once the preacher decides the direction he wants to take for lent we will finalize other plans.

We are in the planning stages for Holy Week: Palm Sunday may be a cantata, a Seder meal for Maundy Thursday, a Good Friday service: working on an idea where each person will nail a nail into a cross, sunrise Easter service along with other UMC in our county and then Easter Sunday service.

Will be interested in hearing what other churches are doing.

Cross Lenten Study / Dinners

We are having a soup and sandwich supper every Wednesday night during Lent. We will have a brief study (about 1/2 hour). This year we are doing a series of 5. It is going to be titled, "Singing The Lord's Song." The 5 sessions are based on the Pastors' Bible Study, Volume 5 written by Donald Schmidt. The 5 sessions are: 1 - Songs to Celebrate Life, 2 - Songs of Hope and Promise, 3 - Songs of Victory and Triumph, 4 - Songs of Pain and Anger, and 5 - Songs of Glory and Adoration. Each session will end with the singing of at least one hymn.

We are planning a Seder Supper on Maundy Thursday. The church will be open on Good Friday for prayer and contemplation. We will also have a sunrise worship service and three services on Easter Sunday.

A tenebrae service is done on Good Friday. It involves the reading of scripture and the extinguishing of candles. At the end of the service, the sanctuary is stripped of all items and the cross is usually covered completely in black. I believe I have a tenebrae service somewhere in my files. If you like, you can email me at and I will try to get it to you.

Ash Wednesday with communion and (optional) imposition of ashes

Maundy Thursday with simple supper and communion around the table in the fellowship hall, followed by Tenebrae in the sanctuary

We also have a weekly half-hour worship/half-hour lunch on Tuesdays at noon, in combination with other churches.
