Angel on a stick

Pardon my ignorance, I'm Baptist. I recently wacthed a video of a liturgical Christmas Eve service. During the processional they brought in some angel puppets (for lack of a better word) suspended from long poles. They were whipping them around and they appeared to "fly" above the congregation. It was so cool. Where, pray tell, can you find something like that or how do you make one? Does anyone have any ideas?

I was hoping to be able to copy a pic that I think is close to what you are describing but can't.

Acolytes come into the church to light the candles in the chancel area as a symbol of bringing the Holy Spirit into the church. (in the reverse at the end of the service the candles are extinguished but "the lighters" for lack of a really much better word remain lit until the acolyte gets to the narthex or the lobby-foyer area as a symbol of taking the Holy Spirit out into the world) I think what you saw the angels on were poles similar to what we use to light the candles but, of course, nothing is burning. I would thing you could rig anything up...maybe painted gold to make it work.

I'm sure others can help you better but since no one has yet answered I thought I'd give it a shot.

This is a googled image that shows someone carrying a banner behind an acolyte. I take it what you saw was angel puppets on the pole instead of the banner?

Close. These angels were attached to the poles (8' long or more) and they appeared to fly above the congregation as the poles were moved. I've seen something similar at Disney during their parade.
