| Update (It's been almost a year) Well I just would like to say that this past year has been wild and crazy but I have enjoyed every minute of it. I am kept busy by all the projects we have going on here at the church. It's had highs and lows but I have learned a lot. In regards to this original post though I would like to give an update on where we are. Our Pastor continues to run the sound for all services. Generally he runs it during worship and then goes to the podium for his sermon. However, sometimes the mixer is left unoccupied and this presents a problem for us in the control room. We stream and record our services. And whenever the mixer is not being "watched over" nobody can make the appropriate adjustments. Our Pastor believes a mixer can be tuned....let me say it again....TUNED. And that it can be left alone most times. That is totally not my view on things at all! So now I'm at the point where the games have to end. It's making the service quality bad, people get up and leave due to the volume, etc. While our Pastor was on vacation I sent a media team member down to run the audio. He did GREAT! Many of our congregants came up and thanked him and told him that the levels were comfortable. So now I am setting up a meeting with him to ask if we can begin training this guy on the mixer. He is like my number two in that he knows just about as much as I do. He is committed to the church and loves media ministry and has serious potential. What I am worried about is the Pastor's response to it all. I'm afraid he's gonna think "Well they're just wanting to take it away from me." If anyone on here can think of something better to do I'm all ears. I've been doing this for 7 years now (6 Volunteer 1 Staff) and I still have much to learn. Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

| Some random thoughts: I used to work for a pastor with a good ear and a passion for good sound - overall, it was a blessing, e.g., we had a pretty good budget. How about some, ah, sleight of hand? Get the pastor to "train" your guy, pass on his wisdom and all, then suggest to the pastor it would be great if he could stay up front and help analyze the sound "from the most important place, the sanctuary" Figure out a way so he can give direction from there, and not keep coming back to the control room, and maybe he'll let go enough to give your guy room to move! |
