Switching Carreers (Kind Of)

I have been a lead volunteer AV Ministry leader for over 10 years, while doing this I have also been working other AV Jobs. Now I am really feeling the Lord's calling to move into Full time ministry. I am ready to move to where ever the Lord wants me, but I am not sure where to start. I have a lot of experience and references, but only volunteer work inside the church. I do audio engineering, Final Cut Pro editing, ProPresenter and Keynote, and more so I could fill the needs of many churches. Please pray that the Lord will direct me to the right ministry position, whether it be a church or something else, I am ready to serve.

Don't happen to live in Texas do you? I'm looking for an assistant right now...only problem is they won't let me bring on a full timer right now.

To get a job in the church media scene you just have to know more than the people interviewing you. In our world that's not hard. To keep a job you have to deliver time and time again.

Check out ChurchStaffing.com and get on their mailing list for jobs in your area or around the country. Take on some interviews and treat them as learning experiences. You may get luck and be the guy but you won't know until you try.

Be sure to get your resume together and looking spiffy. Also put some major achievements together in your head or on paper with pictures. People like to see what your work looks like. If you want to go more on the video side of things then put a demo reel together.

Sorry, I don't live in Texas, willing to move, but it would have to be for Fulltime.

Is it worth paying Churchstaffing.com to post my resume for 15 dollars a month? Do churches look at that or is it better to just keep checking myself and sending out my resume?

thanks

If you want to catch more fish, you gotta drop your hooks where the fish are. If it was me I would consider adding churchstaffing.com to my search arsenal.

Probably good to post a little more about yourself here. This is a place people tend to look at too.

Here is some more details about me

I have been an Audio Video Ministry Leader for over 10 years that involves everything from Audio Engineer, Video Production, keynote and worship software.

I graduated from a tech school with many certificates related to audio engineer

I have been working for Installation and Design companies, years with a company doing church and commercial systems, and now strictly residential systems.

I also know Final Cut Pro and many other computer software and networking.

I am very technical, I am able to teach myself, or learn quickly, most technical things.

I live in Maryland but I am ready to move my family anywhere the Lord calls me

thank you for your prayers

I've never posted my resume to churchstaffing so i'm not sure how well that would turn out. If you have the money it might be worth it to try for a few months. I get their monthly listings but it's more for other people than myself. I've never responded to a listing at churchstaffing before. I do see some great opportunities all the time though.

Listen to Phil, post as much information about yourself here. He also lives up in your neck of the woods so i'm sure the gears are already turning.

I'll definitely being praying for you in this transition. I know how hard it is to move your family to a new place. (I have lived in OH, IN, SC, FL and now ND)

Be sure you include more about yourself than just your technical abilities. If a church can afford a full time tech person then quite a bit of your time will be spent on non-technical things. For example:
  • How are your organizational skills (budget, scheduling etc.)
  • can you recuit a team
  • Can you lead that team
  • Can you train them
  • Can you follow leadership if you don't 100% agree (without telling everyone you don't agree)
  • Have you had people on staff under you? How did they respond to your leadership

All stuff I'd start with if you were interviewing to work for me.

Hope that helps!
