| A worker is worth his or her wages. If we offer our services for free the church may well gratefully accept. If we choose to charge for our services the church may choose to decline those services.
Motivation is what makes one or the other acceptable before God.
The person who freely gives his or her time, but with a motivation of being admired and noticed, with a desire to impress others or build up self would, I suspect, find less favor with the Lord than a person who charges a reasonable fee for excellent work, but does so serving with a humble spirit.
Proverbs 22:29 (NIV) reminds us,"Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank."
A king knows the needs of his people and rewards them for their labors. It isn't the churches money; it is God's.
And God is indeed generous to his people! |
