I remember when this guy was asking these questions.

I would be curious what the result was then and where things stand now.

But as I look this over I can't help but think the best answer always in ministry if asked about salary is to have already been praying about the situation and be able to respond with,
"I have been praying the God provide me with the salary that I need to live on, and I will leave it to him what you guys decide on or are able to provide me with."

We need to remember that we are lucky to even receive any kind of monetary compensation for what we do.

We are blessed to be able to be in ministry and even more blessed to be able to do it to provide ourselves with an income.

Thank you for re-kindling this thread.
I don't know that I'd change much of what I said, however, I will add this . . .

I am unpaid at my church and generally only do 2-3 hours a week tops of actual work, so that's not really a problem for scheduling, etc.

That said, there is a particular time of year that absorbs quite a lot of my time, in addition to my full time job.

Our Easter drama, for instance, absorbs 70 hours of time plus borrowing of equipment. For me, that's almost $10k worth of time and equipment during the 4 weeks they are utilized, and there's no $$ value to place on the time away from the family during that time.

In an established program, one would have a defined schedule of tasks that you may not have, and even though we could provide you with a list of schedules and tasks, those would be based on our skill level, our work flow and our equipment/software and not directly relate to anything specific for you at your skill level, work flow or equipment setup.

As it relates to getting paid, some of my collegues and I raised the question of why we can't pay our own people the thousands of dollars that we pay the outside vendors. And the answer that we collectively came up with was that it's because when you do business with a stranger, you are more likely to respect the integrity of the transaction.
