Touchscreen for Chamsys MagicQ

I have been working with magicq the last 2 weeks, and am starting to think it will be our next move in dmx control. I will need to get a new computer to run it, and was thinking to get some type of touchscreen (all in one would be best as we are portable).

Any recommendations? Size of screen, speed, model, what has worked well?

I am hoping to buy a control wing at some point, but a computer seems a cheaper alternative at the moment. Thanks for your thoughts!

I love MagicQ so much! Great choice!

I've never used a touchscreen for it, but I do have some recommendations on size. Get at least a 19" screen. I used MagicQ on a 17" and it felt crowded. Now we have a 20" flatscreen and everything looks well organized and spaced out properly.

I don't have any other insight though, sorry!

Congrats on moving to MagicQ. It would be the industry standard if I had any say in it.

It's a little large but we have decently taken delivery of a couple of Iiyama T2250MTS screens. Really nice little things!

I'm not using MagicQ but i am using LightFactory with a Dell SX2210T and it is great. The Dell monitor is a 21.5" screen and less than $300 bucks. Try to get that much screen for that price on any other multi-touch monitor.

There is one other monitor that has the same technology in it and it is from HP. It's the L2105tm and if i didn't know better i would say it's the exact same panel in a different shell. The price is also around the same. For any other touch screen in this size you will expect to pay over 700 dollars.

In case you are not familiar with the tech involved with these monitors it is IR based which is similar in responsiveness to SAW or Capacitive technology. There are times that the IR registers before you even make contact with the panel.

As you can expect the touch screen helps navigate around quicker but takes a bit of retraining the brain.

I've been using Chamsys on an ASUS All-in-1 touch screen computer for almost 2 years now.... The only downside is the lack of VGA connection to add a second monitor... I want to try one of those $40 USB to VGA adapters to see how well it works...

Having the touch screen to activate palettes on the fly is great! For programming, I still find myself using the mouse a lot.

Since I bought a PC wing, I can use Chamsys in touch mode which is cool, the icons and buttons get a lot larger.

Using the on-screen playback faders takes a little while to get used to... For intensity playbacks, I add a 3 second fade time just in case my finger slips when trying to raise/lower the playback fader.

Have fun and make sure to add the Chamsys forum to your bookmarks folder... its your best friend.
