Arrow Elation Platinum 5r or Martin?

It finally looks like we are changing to a venue who permit the use of water based hazers, I have already decided to get the Ultratec Radiance Hazer thanks to the other forums.

So I am looking at getting at least 4 new moving lights hung above the stage and maybe a couple more which I may mount on trusses at the back of the stage

I'm very interested about the new Elation Platinum 5r, Also a store in Tokyo sells them at an excellent price so I wouldn't need to import them (unlike the hazer)

What do you guys think? have you used these new lights? any other lights you would recommend?

Just be aware that the 5r does not have CMY color mixing. This means that to change colors you will see the color wheel flip, it won't fade to a different color. This may work in your situation, it may not.

If you don't need CMY mixing the 5R is an EXCELLENT light. Do you need that much power though (it is slightly brighter than a 575W moving light)?

not having CMY mixing is defiantly losing the Plat 5r a few points, Regarding the power we can always dim it if its too bright but the way I see is "more power = more good"

Thanks for the feedback guys, has any one had a play with the ADJ VIZI Beam lights?

The Vizi Beam units are the same as the normal Vizi but of course is meant for a longer throw.

Also keep in mind to get CMY color mixing it will cost at least 2-3x more per unit.

CMY...up until now I have been buying LED washes since our current venue wouldn't allow smoke, So for me this is new.

My local vendor is selling Elation DESIGNSPOT300PRO at $3500 a pop, they have CMY mixing, any thoughts on these lights?

They are what the are. Good middle of the road unit. Average life expectancy, average performance, average output, nothing special. Good from 14'-25' or so. Just very average. If you take care of it and treat it well it will work for you. Kind of a pain to work on, but unless you are doing your own upkeep and maintenance that is not a problem.

They are not Vari-Lite or HES, they are in the neighborhood of Martin and Robe, and they are better than Chauvet and the Chinese knock offs.
