A quick IMAG idea, I could use advice!

We are a camp ministry and I am upgrading our current IMAG system, we use OLD Panasonic cameras from the 80's. They are "HD" which stands for "HEAVY DUTY" on them lol But i was thinking on going with the Panasonic AW-HS50 for switching. Then on cameras i was thing the Sony HXR-MC50U or something similar. I was going to run HDMI out into an AJA HA5 HDMI - SDI converter. Would there be a noticeable quality decrease and or latency? Screen wise, i do not know if we will upgrade them yet, but could we output from the switcher in SD if needed to run to projectors? What are some opinions on how I could improve some of my ideas? Any suggestions? And is there any way for me to display some kind of light like a red led at them camera station to let the operator know there cam is live like on bigger camera rigs?
