Question on cabling - effects on IMAG

I am pricing out a new recording / streaming system for our small church. We aren't particularly new to video recording and streaming, been doing it in SD for several years. Our current equipent is poor (even when it was new) and we want to upgrade to HD equipment.

In talking through the new system with church leaders, they would like to do certain IMAG applications, particularly baptisms.

We will probaly use Cannon XHG1 (3) and an HD Tricaster. We should be able (in my opinion) to hold the frame delay to around 2-3 frames which should be OK.

The thing I am struggling with is that the technician I am currently working with wants to use baluns and cat5 to run the SDI signals from the cameras. 2 of the runs are about 75feet, the third is quite long maybe as much as 250 feet. Everything I've read about baluns and cat5 says there will be frame delay, probably 3 frames. Combined with the 2 in the Tricaster, that's probably too much for IMAG. I don't know how much IMAG we will do, but if we do it, I want it to work well.

How should I cable this HD-SDI signal back to the switcher or if I decide on cheaper cameras how to cable the component video? I haven't really decided that I have to have genlock to do this. The Tricaster will provide genlock or sync the cameras without it, obviously costing another frame without the genlock.

The projectors are probably 150feet from the switcher, they are currently run component (5 wires), well one is, the other is slaved with a vga connector. The projectors are Mitsubishi, 1280x720, these have been installed for a while. I am hoping these will not be an additional source of delay.

I welcome any comments.

According to this thread.

You could probably run 250feet or more with a reclocking da.

WHOA! Why on earth would you want to convert SDI to Cat-5? SDI over coax is rock solid within spec to 300 feet.

Thanks much for the replies guys, my apologies for not finding that other thread. Mark, I don't want to convert it, I just needed to hear it from someone with a little more knowledge than I. I have had my problems getting this job bid. The better video technicians in the Nashville area have bigger fish to fry and just don't want to mess with a 50k job. I'm using a company that has more experience in network and home video.

And if I read that table right, component can go even farther, so I should be OK whichever camera I choose.

Thanks again
