You'll need to use the Audio Midi Setup utility to attempt, and shift-click your output options to see if it will let you.

There's a program I think is called Sound Flower that does what you want.

I know within Digital Performer, I can combine I/O options between interfaces and onboard I/O, but I haven't ever used my optical outs on my MacPro.
