| you can set file sharing with permissions on each of your Apple computers so that only those with permission can access, OR, just put file sharing on in general. Your Windows machines won't see them, and if they do, won't know what to do really. So, on each iMac and the MacPro, System Preferences:Sharing:File Sharing - make sure the box is clicked. In the window to the right, you'll see the options for who can and can't have access and what permissions they have. C. |

| I guess part of my confusion is that when I followed the directions for sharing, there was nothing that indicated how to give/require accounts/passwords for the folders. Mark: I found that link last week, and I sort of tried to follow it, but it's talking about things that I just don't know the answers to. As far as I know, there's no administrator on the iMacs, you just turn them on, log in, and they work. There's nothing that shows up with the names of the other macs ... there ARE settings for groups I've never heard of, tho. IEEEE! |

| We have three MacPro's, two iMacs, and a mac mini in the control room. What we do is select the mac (the other mac) you want to get files from or put them to in a finder window (on the left under "Network"). Now, it should ask you for a login. You want to connect using the user name and password for the other mac. That way you're operating with the permissions of the other mac. You should be able to read and right to your hearts content.
