Mac server questions

At one of my clients they just got in a Mac OSX server that I'm attempting to get to play nice with their Windows network. Since all I've ever worked on has been Windows servers I've been struggling.

Does anyone know if a Mac server has specific controls like Windows Server does as far as remote access? What the client wants is to have one person create content (movies, documents, etc.) for the rest of the company to be able to view. I've managed to muddle my way through creating the shared folder and the rights for that folder but I'm stuck at how to allow others in the network to see the folder. The locations are at different buildings so they have different IP schemes.

Ordinarily in a Windows world I'd just set up a Remote Desktop session and lock down to just the folder that they can view. But from what I've been able to see in Mac-land I can either do a Screen Sharing which gives them full control over the server or nothing. Is there a way to do this with the Mac server so that users that use Macs can connect and view just that folder without being able to go anywhere else on the server that they aren't supposed to?

I am not quite sure if its the same for OS X Server but in OS X if you go to: System Preferences> Sharing (under the internet and networking tab). Then under the "services" tab check "Windows Sharing" and it should then prompt you to choose the accounts folder you'd like to share across the network.

As for the remote desktop the option is also in the same place, though I have not used it. I can give it a try if you'd like...

**this might help:

Thanks Jake. Would that be for just Windows computers to talk to the OS X server or for Macs as well? What they want to do is restrict the server to just talk to Macs so I haven't turned on any of the Windows features.

ah. That should work for both, but you could also try the Personal File Sharing option just above the Windows option. I don't have another Mac around at the moment or I would check it for you. But I am pretty sure that's what you are looking for, so you might give that a try.

You might try the option it gives at the top, as well as the one at the bottom.

I noticed that it says for computers accessing that computer across the same local subnet. In my case it would be going across a different subnet (192.168.100.x to 10.120.100.x)

Hmmm...Ok, give the bottom option there a try then. In finder choose>Go>Network, then browse for the machine you are trying to connect to or you could choose>Go>Connect To Server> then enter afp://(insert IP here).
I should've had you try this option first, but I misunderstood your first post.
Oh, well this should do what you are wanting.
