Projector HDMI Splitter

Hi, guys!

In our church we have 2 Sony HVR HD1000.

The problem is when we connect the HDMI cable it blocks all the other outputs!
We have one camera in a cammate and when we connect the HDMI cable we lose the reference monitor and we are not abble to see what is happening in the camera.

We are thinking about buying a HDMI splitter 1x2 but I'm afraid it makes a delay in this camera what will put it out of sync with the other camera.

Does anyone offer another solution?

Thanks a lot, brothers!

Visible delay is caused by devices that buffer the entire video frame (usually, to synchronize it) -- we're talking on the order of 1/30th of a second. An HDMI splitter does nothing of this sort, and the delay is on the order of 1/1,000,000 of a second. Nothing to worry about.

Regards,

Jeff

Thanks a lot for your reply, Jeff.

I contacted the support of kanexPro and they said their splitter has a 4-5 seconds delay and they told me most of the delays that are not compatible with HDMI 1.4 have that kind of delay.

Can you help us to find a splitter that has no delay? Because we don't want to lose the lip sync.
God bless you!

Okay... I think I see the problem here, and it's a matter of terminology, and they answered a different question from what you were really asking. They're probably talking about the delay between turning on the splitter (or having the source change format) and having the monitors or whatever the outputs are driving lock to the signal... essentially, power-up delay.

The technically proper term for what you're concerned about is "latency", and is the measure of how long the signal takes to get from the input of a device to its output. As a practical matter, latency through a splitter like this is nil. (If someone could make a five second video delay for under $100, they'd be rich -- right now that sort of thing is in the thousands of dollars.) The bottom line is that the Kanex Pro should work just fine. There are other companies (Startech.com comes to mind) that sell the same sorts of devices.
