You touched on another issue that I run into repeatedly in the graphic design world...people with no design skills can't wrap their minds around the preparation it takes to make that "4 minute video" or "those few backgrounds you made".

I think media ministers would garner a lot more respect if people realized how much effort is put into getting it onto the screen.

God bless,
RW

And they often say, "If I had that talent, I wouldn't take all day to get the job done!"

Don't you just want to do something un-christian to the person who says that? I have always wanted to say, "If you had this talent then you would have known better than to say that." But I would never actually say that.

I'm in a "mood" so this not the best time to respond but I've started taking a harder line about getting stuff to me in a timely manner.
I've "multi-tasked" pulling graphics for a "special song" that the singer knew about for three weeks and told me about on his way up to the platform to sing it.
Now - you get one background for your entire 3, 4 or 5 minute song. When someone complained I just asked them how long they had to prepare, when they told me 3 weeks I just respond that give me three weeks notice and I'll have time to do something spectacular.
Maybe it's my health or age but when I was in my 20's this stuff bothered me a lot less. I was fast enough to keep up - at 53 I've slowed down a bit.
I'll do my best, but I'm not going to kill myself trying to keep up or make someone else look good. Their lack of consideration is not my problem.
And as to the statement, "the spirit only speaks to me on Saturday Night" I've come short of telling someone to let the Spirit set up the program.
We used to have a sign that said "You can have it right or you can have now, but you can't have it right, now!"

That reminds me of a sign I read in an Amish woodworking shop:

We do three kinds of work, 1. Good, 2. Fast, 3. Cheap. Pick any two.

Yeah but since I seldom charge that won't work for me.

Just curious how many call and ask the pastor/music director/whoever for the information you need on Wednesday or Thursday? Our bulletin person used to call me every Friday morning to get the information then she suddenly quit doing it. Now there are occasional weeks where I remember it on Saturday evening and she has already printed up a generic bulletin with "worship song" as the song titles. Ask and you will receive? Maybe?

We have a production meeting on Wednesday afternoons. For all the good it does sometimes.

I can't get our people to have a production meeting (by that or any other name). Grumble.

Well, step 1 was to get the meeting (key: schedule it right after staff meeting while everyone is still there). Step 2 is now to get them to keep to the plan that they make on Wednesday.

"staff meeting"? Your people have staff meeting? I don't think ours do -- if they do, they don't tell me about it.
