Guitar opinions

Planning to start learning to play acoustic guitar after the holidays. Looking at a Epiphone PR-5E. Any opinions or other suggestions?

I haven't played this guitar but when looking for a low end guitar I look for a solid top (this doesn't have), good tuners (this has), and a tone I like. You should try several just so you get a feel for the tone and make sure it is a tone you fall in love with. That is a personal thing but I think it is very important for someone who is just learning. If you really like how it sounds you will be more motivated to play it. Learning to play guitar is simple, it just takes a lot of repetition so the better it sounds the more likely you are to put the reps in. A solid top is something that usually means better tone and the tone will get better over time. So you have to decide whether you are satisfied with the tone this has right now because it probably won't improve with age. I think Fender and Takamine make solid tops at that price and there are probably others. But just get one that has a tone you are excited about.

Ha, i was just up there a few days ago looking at bass pedals for my son for Christmas. But that is what you should do. Go play a bunch of guitars and if they don't have one out that you want to try just ask and they will probably go get it for you.
