Old thread, but while we're here, I'm consistently impressed with the AC15. Good, not too much power, you can actually turn it up past "1".

A couple of the guys in the church are in a "pop-punk" band, not my cup of tea anyway .. both play Mesa Dual Recs, turned up to Twelve. I think they're already made half-power, and it's still too blinking much. Not a good choice, the PA has to be turned up to Eleven just to get over the stagevolume. Ugh.

AC15 or AC30 are just a good choice. Or really, anything with 30 watts or less. Preferably less. I'm lucky in that everybody who plays guitar for church at our place is really conscious about both stagevolume and tone.

Did you ever buy an amp? I recommend the smaller Peavey tube stuff (classic series).

Primary WL/guitar slinger. I've tried several, Mesa Single Rectifier with closed back 2x12 Celestion V30s, Marshall Valvestate 2x12, Vox AC30 1x12 (really liked, now stays at home), Mesa F50 1x12 (love/hate thing going on), and most recently a Budda Superdrive 18 (still too much power, but love it).
Out of that I would only, and definitely, recommend either the AC30 or Budda. The Budda is high gain while the AC30 is not - ideally I would like to run them as a stereo pair. If weight is a factor go with the Budda, it's significantly lighter than the AC30.
IMO, the amp is even more important than the guitar, and certainly at least equal in importance to the pick-ups. Almost nobody is running big rigs these days unless they're playing stadiums, or metal, or use them as part of the stage design.
Unless your band plays all one style and never drifts, be careful not to get an amp with a niche sound - it'll probably be an abandoned niche in a few years.
