vector?

If I'm looking for a graphic or illustration, what is the importance of buying a 'vector' style vs jpeg, etc. Totally ignorant here.

thanks
mary

Scalability. A vector image can be re sized to any size you want whereas jpeg or raster image can be scaled down, but not up without distortion.

Vector images also transition well between different mediums: web sites, video, postcards, posters, etc.

In a nutshell:
Vector graphics are composed of lines, curves, & shapes filled with a color. Best suited for logos, cartoons, text, and things with sharp edges.
Raster graphics are composed of lots of dots of color. Best suited for photos & images with lots of fine detail.

If you enlarge a vector graphic, it will not become blurry like a raster graphic.
