Photoshop layer masks

I'm trying to get the hang of using layer masks in my PS CS4. I can create the mask, but whenever I try to resize the layer, the graphic and mask resize differently. The chain is clicked on, but they don't resize together.

Any clues?

Differently how? I don't have CS4, but as long as the chain between the layer and the mask is clicked, if you resize the layer (e.g., ctrl-T to Transform), they should resize together.

It's like either the layer or the mask jumps down about 50% or so as soon as I start resizing. May have to try to do a screen capture when I have some time to show it.

Does this same phenomenon occur after you apple the final position, rather than the quick preview it generates while you're moving the elements around?

Both. The mask "jumps", just as soon as I grab the one of the resize boxes. Then, when I apply it, it stays misplaced.

Is it a Smart Layer, perchance?

Because masks on those have always acted differently. We're still on CS2, but that drove me batty for a while until I realized it. Otherwise, my experience is exactly the same as Gene's.

Thanks. I will have to investigate that. Because sometimes they do behave as they should and other times they don't.

Normally, I don't have time to troubleshoot. I need to get the graphic done.

I'm sure no one else here can identify with that.
