Opinions?

Hey everyone! I wanted to get some opinions on a couple of graphics I made for my church. I'm using Photoshop CS5 if anyones curious.

The first one is for our annual series "50 Days of Prayer and Giving"

The concept was my pastors idea, I just put it into an image.

The second one is a graphic for an upcoming ladies event called "A Purse for All Seasons." The one was all my concept. I have a few changes I would have liked to be made, but it's already posted and done.

Both of these images are on our church website. We have a little flash rotator thingy that scrolls through different images.

Let me know what you think!

I like all the texture that's in the purse one. I think the plain text, "Guest Speaker" et all, wouldn't be reall readable. Maybe a bigger drop shadow or a bit of a stroke.

The 50 days one is nice and clean. It looks a bit dark, but maybe that's the point. You could, perhaps, use a cloud brush and add some clouds for some texture, either blue or gray. If you want more texture, that is.

e.g. compare these two, one w/o clouds and one with

Opinion are of course a dime a dozen, so take what you like and don't sweat the rest. The opinion that matters most is the person you are creating it for and your personal tastes as well. What works for one can be the complete opposite for another. Here's my thoughts:

"A Purse for all Seasons" Pros: Nice background texture and purse graphic, Nice vibrant color. Cons: Not a big fan of colored or white drop shadows recommend glow effect if wanting to use color, church logo looks a little lost in the layout, vibrant text color on vibrant background competes, may want to use basic white or even softer shade as the "Guest Speaker" color.

"50 Days..." Pros: The concept of the tag line breaking through the darkness is communicated well. I like the font choice. Cons: Feels a little too depressing (completely black background, gray font color, dark blue world) to promote prayer and giving. The warp effect on the tag line needs to either be greater or not at all, it feels a little non committal right now. And since it is a different effect than text at the top its a competing style instead of complementing.

I'm in agreement with Keck, opinions are just that - you need to be happy with the work.
I do like the teal and magenta combo of colors but I would definitely put a stroke around the lettering.
Break through the darkness - I have mixed feelings on. It might be a little too dark but I may be off base on that one.

Check them on the projector - I've had some stuff that looked great on my monitor but was really sad on the big screen.

Overall, nice job - On a 1 - 10 scale with 5 being the goal I'd say a strong 7 possibly an 8

Thanks guys! I think I agree with all of you. I'm looking to learn a few things I can implement in future designs.

Taking all your opinions to heart, I think these are the changes I would have made if they weren't already committed to the website and everywhere else.

50 Days: I would keep the dark blue world (by pastor's wishes. He wanted a dark world), but I would do some kind of background to lighten the mood a little bit. I don't know if I'd do clouds or not, because I don't really visualize clouds in space. (No atmosphere, no clouds) I would change the tagline warp to complement the main title. Basically all the words would be warping around the world.

Purse: Definitely a glow effect instead of white drop shadow. I'm a little conflicted on the font color though. I like the color it is, but I agree it does compete. I don't know if I'd like it to be white. I just see a ton of contrast in my mind, which is good, but I see too much. I think the title and tagline stand out by themselves (maybe a little greater drop shadow), but the rest of the text fades into the background. I could do something with that.

Thanks again for your opinions! They are greatly appreciated!
