What exactly do you mean by showing music? ie. showing live footage of band or music video's etc.

I believe he means the musical score, in addition to lyrics.

Sorry, did not find the earlier thread. I am talking about the musical score. Our music director is adamant about showing the music and lyrics on the screen, as he believes the majority of our members read music. It is a lot of extra work on my part. The music director does concede to show lyrics only for familiar songs, which is such a breath of fresh, creative air for me, because yes, then I can do what the screen allows. Sounds like we are definitely in the minority here.

It's definitely a fairly small number of churches which project the notes, but it remains consistently an issue - particularly in churches which are just starting the transition from printed hymnals to projection.

While I'm not sure The Paperless Hymnal / ePraise Hymn choice of square notes is the best way to go, they do a great job of breaking up the hymns into appropriate-sized "chunks" for congregational use.

I still think that printing out the music and having it available for those that want it is the best way to go.

If only people would focus on the purpose instead of the method...

Not sure what you're saying here.
I can see "purpose" arguments going multiple directions.

Presuming the purpose is worship in song, I can see that for some it might be important to have notes and for others it might be problematic to have notes.
