We use stills and typically stick to a single background for any given week. Our theory on that is that people will spend less time focusing on the pretty pictures or the pretty moving pictures and focus instead on God.

On the flip side, some people feel that a well-chosen background image for each song and even video loops are quite spiritually uplifting. So there you go

100% motion loops 95-99% of them abstract from Digital Juice and worshipfilms.com. Now and then we may have a communion service or a special slower song that will warrant a video of the crucifixion or something similar. At Easter we did NewSong's Arise My Love and with their permission used the video loop they use in their concerts. The background is chosen based on the tempo of the song.

At the church I'm at now we only use stills. Working at getting the team into using a few motion backgrounds to add a subtle change.

We use motion backgrounds that fit the energy and message of worship songs.

Once we transition to sermon, it's all thematic still elements. These will usually be designed with framing elements leaving lots of clean space for text.

Videos will be full screen if at all possible. 4:3 aspect videos will be windowboxed.

If the video doesn't contain car chases and explosions, I add them. Car chases and explosions make all videos better! ;-D

We use mostly a single still background for our Sunday services, with the very occassional background video along the lines of iWorship that the band plays during with the drummer following a click track.
For the Saturday service that we will be kicking off this fall we may be using some motion backgrounds, probably not more than 50%, and those the more subtle ones that won't get people ill.

We do 95% motions, with about 70% abstacts, although, I like to put in a scenic motion with 'specials' or songs that have specific focus.

We do stills, I try and sneak a motion background in from time to time but it hasn't quite been accepted yet.

Mostly stills, we have problems with Sunday Plus when we try to use motion backgrounds with our songs.

Mostly stills in our traditional services, maybe about 1/4 videos in our contemporary services. Some of the videos are from sources like iWorship DVDs, and others are home-grown using stock/royalty-free material from sources like BarnaFilms. Every month or so I get motivated to create a new video BG for a song...

We also get a little flavor of video with some stills by using the Pan & Zoom feature of SongShow Plus, which can be pretty neat when used effectively.

Many of the SongShow Plus visualizations work well for adding a bit of motion and interest to still. I'll add gradient motion or aurora over a still and set the transparency to 50-75% and set the colors of those to work well with the picture.

Or for sky/space stills, I'll add the Sparkle visualization to have twinkling stars.

Pretty neat, indeed.

Haven't tried that one yet - I'll look it over this evening when we set up Sunday's service. Thanks for the idea!
