Website with "Members Only" section

I want to create a "Members Only" section of a website where certain pages can only be viewed by anyone who has an assigned password to access it. The page is hosted by 1and1.com and it has all kinds of website building tools and so forth and I can figure out how to do most things but I need someone to help point me in the right direction.

Can anyone here give me a broad general idea as to how to do this or what I should be looking for? The closest thing that I could come up with was the ability to create a private directory on the site but I wasn't sure if this is where I should be as I try to figure this out or if I am barking up the wrong tree.

Thanks!

I use 1and1 but I don't use their website tools. I would probably use Joomla (or another inferior CMS ).

Depends on what the "Members Only" section will have. If I'm not mistaken, Dreamweaver has a wizard that pretty much guides you through creating restricted page/s. You're better off having a database that stores registration/login info for easy valization when they login.

It's been a while I messed around with Dreamweaver, but PM me if you want, and I'd take a look.

Nothing special. Just some personal phone numbers and pictures on a few pages for a few celebrities to share with each other. My client is somewhat famous and has a few famous friends who are not very tech savy and when they share their stuff via the web, they don't want their pictures or other personal info to pop up on a search engine.

Essentially they will all use the same login so the desired result is to keep those pages private but accessible via the web (being that they all travel frequently.
