Online Signup Form for Nursery/Sunday School Volunteers?

Hi, I am not new to designing websites, but I have never designed a church website before. As a gift to my parents' church, I am working on creating their website. The church is unaware of this project, so hopefully this is a welcomed design.

I have asked a few people at the church what they would like to see, and a few of them asked if there was a way that people could go online and sign up to volunteer for nursery/sunday school shifts. Ideally, once they sign up, their name will be listed on the website, or the "box" where they entered their named will be locked to prevent multiple sign-ups.

I have seen rec. sports leagues do this for referee sign-ups, so I am certain it can be done. Here's a sports league website with an example: http://ayso174.org/ref_signup.php There are no games cheduled at the moment, but hopefully this helps to explain what I'm looking for.

Does anyone know a way to do this? Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

What kind of platform are you using? PHP? ASP? And are you using a Content Management System like Drupal, Joomla, or DotNetNuke?

I use Drupal and I can build a basic sign-up form in under an hour that keeps full history, etc.

But how big is the church? Depending on the size of it, actually going and downloading information on the nursery schedule could become more laborious than just having a desk calendar nailed to the wall.

I'm building this on Dreamweaver. I'm not sure what platform I'm using yet. No content management system (I'm not familiar with Drupal, Joomla, or DotNetNuke, although I see them mentioend a lot here.)

The church has about 500 people.

I just want a form that shows the available nursery positions each week, and gives people the opportunity to enter their name online and volunteer for the nursery positions.
