Fonts get funky in front page

I created some new buttons in photoshop. Made them oversized as recomended. I'm using palalino linotype as the font. When my buttons are normal as a JPEG then they look great but they will have a black square around them. So when I use them over a graphoc I make them trasparent and this removes the black sqaure but the font gets pixilated and rough. Any ideas on how to cure this???????

I'm thinking that there is some black in the font color that's getting made transparent also. Maybe try doing a color fill on the black and then make the new color transparent.

Why do you need them oversized? Just make them the correct size and export as a .gif (good) or .png (better) the first time around. Your font problems should dissappear

even better, add the text after you resize the buttons to the correct size.

Well for the size. some tutorial I read said to make the buttons about 4 times bigger than needed. The buttons look great. the PNG looks great. The Gif looks like crap. In front page you have a choice of JPEG (PNG file is used) or a gif that gives you the transparent backing. I can change the backing but it doesn't change the font. Right now I'm just not using italic on the buttons that I want to float over graphics. I'll try making them smaller and see what happens.
