Pioneer PRV-LX1 and Panasonic AG-MX70

Our pastor wants to have DVDs produced of our sunday and wednesday messages, the same way that we presently do with VHS tapes now.

We are considering a purchase of the PRV-LX1 with the optional SDI board to use with our AG-MX70 switcher (that also has the SDI out)

Would this work? that we could record in real time and have a DVD master to then duplicate and sell (relatively shortly after service)

Thanx for any help.

It sounds like it would work fine. Is there a local dealer who has that DVD unit so you could try it out and make sure??

We have used a pioneer DVD recorder for a couple of years. It has worked flawlessly for our needs (time shifting the sermon for our video cafe). It might not work for your needs though. I can't imagine offering this for sale to the congregation - it's pretty rough. Authoring is what sets a professional quality DVD apart. Your recorder will do 'something' along these lines. The Pioneer will set chapter marks at timed intervals - not manually. The menu system is pretty feeble as well. You would have to pre-record any opening or introductions. It's a lot more work, but I would take the captured AVI, edit it, render an MPEG2, and then author a DVD. You probably won't be able to make them available as soon as the service ended, because you haven't taken into consideration the amount of time it takes to duplicate a DVD. It may work, but try it out first as Nathan suggested to see if it's acceptable or not.

Best regards,
PCH

I also own a Pioneer PRV-LX1 and while I didn't purchase the SDI option I do record via YUV (analog component) to it live on Sundays. Been in service for almost a year and working great.

Phugger is correct in saying that some of the menuing features aren't really high end but you can custom create menus that should be more than adequate for the quick turn product you want to generate. I just today updated to the latest firmware and Pioneer continues to improve on the menu and other features and I'm anxious to delve into the latest updates which include the abiity to import .PSD (Photoshop) files as menu screens.

The new firmware will now allow you to set up a disk to play a clip as an "intro" to the disk before the menu loads. It is another nice feature especially if you have a produced "bumper" that is typically laid down at the front end of a service.

Also, as a point of clarification, if you have someone in front of the unit then you can manually set chapter points on the fly while it records. Just tell it in the menu that you want manual chapter marks and it'll not put any on the clip until you tell it to.

Definitely check one out and if you go that route plan for the two bay unit as the single bay is fine but the cost for the second drive is, in my opinion, more than the worth it since you can burn two disks at once or even copy disk to disk.

Hope that give you some new info to ponder.

Doug

Joe:

I sent you an e-mail so hopefully we can connect on your situation. The Pioneer should be able to do what you need it to.
