We tried something this past Sunday. I removed one of the camera inputs to the MX50 and directly connected it to the back of the Mini-DV recorder. There was a huge improvement. So I guess the culprit is the MX50 switcher. Thank you tdangelo for your suggestions. Anyone else have any input on a good, but inexpensive switcher to move to? We only need 3-4 inputs and at least 2 outputs. Thanks

DeWayne, I'm in the same boat as you with an MX-50. It doesn't appear that any of the mixers Tom suggests handle audio (which I need as well). anyone else have mixer suggestions?

There are production switchers with audio mixers built-in, however if you can avoid them I would. That class of switcher was originally manufactured as a lower-end "linear" edit system switcher. Well, who do you know still editing linear? And even then (10 years ago) most people would have a seperate audio console.

I would suggest you do the same. Get an external audio console. It likely does not need to be fancy.

It looks like we are going to go with a Roland V-8. We already have a small Mackey board in the Control Room. We were just using the audio on the MX-50 as an easy way for the TD to control the overall level. They will just have to get used to using the Mackey now to control the record level. Thank you all for your help and suggestions.
