Need advice on getting a better video signal

We tried something this past Sunday. I removed one of the camera inputs to the MX50 and directly connected it to the back of the Mini-DV recorder. There was a huge improvement. So I guess the culprit is the MX50 switcher. Thank you tdangelo for your suggestions. Anyone else have any input on a good, but inexpensive switcher to move to? We only need 3-4 inputs and at least 2 outputs. Thanks

DeWayne, I'm in the same boat as you with an MX-50. It doesn't appear that any of the mixers Tom suggests handle audio (which I need as well). anyone else have mixer suggestions?

There are production switchers with audio mixers built-in, however if you can avoid them I would. That class of switcher was originally manufactured as a lower-end "linear" edit system switcher. Well, who do you know still editing linear? And even then (10 years ago) most people would have a seperate audio console.

I would suggest you do the same. Get an external audio console. It likely does not need to be fancy.

It looks like we are going to go with a Roland V-8. We already have a small Mackey board in the Control Room. We were just using the audio on the MX-50 as an easy way for the TD to control the overall level. They will just have to get used to using the Mackey now to control the record level.
