How To- DVD to Youtube

If this is in the wrong discussion please move it.

Anyways, our pastor would like to put our services on the net for the snowbirds in Florida. Our website is on Google Sites which ,as far as i know, has a 10MB file limit. So I figured the easiest would be Youtube BUT, we record straight to DVD from camera. Whats the easiest, as in fastest low cost(multiple different people doing the post at home) way to do this, OR is there a better way.
Thanks

Youtube has a 10 MINUTE file limit.. not a limit on MB. You can actually upload the VOB file directly to Youtube and it will convert.

Some DVD recorders have a function that allows you to create chapters on the fly (without stopping) and subsequently creating separate files on the disc by pressing the record button. You could press your record button every 8-10 minutes and when you finish finalizing the disc, you'll have a bunch of VOB files ready for direct upload.

I would recommend using vimeo for hosting your video content over Youtube.

Yes, I think you are right. I ran one DVD through Handbrake and it came out to 1.3GB. This was at 640x480 or whatever the standard is. I was going to downsize it to 320x240 but the "picture" icon which is supposed to let you do this isn't on my program, or at least I can't find it.Help.

We are in a rural area, so most people have either wireless broadband or a dish.My broadband connection tops out at about 70K per sec, so I need the file sizes low enough to allow streaming, but maybe thats not even possible at that speed.

You can easily request to upload bigger/longer files: http://support.google.com/youtube/bi...n&answer=71673

I've uploaded videos almost 2 hours long that at almost 2GB in size.

I've never tried uploading a .VOB file but YouTube at least officially doesn't support it: http://support.google.com/youtube/bi...n&answer=77256

I agree with the recommendation for Handbrake. We also use AVS software. It costs a little, but it's the best bang for the buck I've ever seen.

Thanks

I had to switch the anamorphic to "none" to change dimensions. I put up yesterdays 101 minutes at 320x240 and 550kbps and it came out to 473MB. Took 6 hours to upload. I hesitate to go any higher quality because the people I talked too already said they had to wait quite a while for it to load from Vimeo.

I don't think going higher quality is going to seriously effect your viewers' load times. It may be helpful to point out to people on slower connections that they should turn off the HD option (which is confusing in itself, since HD doesn't necessarily mean High-Defintion.)

If you're posting your whole service, make sure you have the appropriate copyright permissions for streaming the music in your services.

If it makes you feel any better, our services (sermon only, 720p) run between 3GB and 4GB AFTER we compress for Vimeo.
