So the H.264 has a software component to run on the capture computer? What is the physical link between the encoder and computer?

Yes it's there usual software Media Express. USB. The encoder converts the stream, travels over USB to the computer, and i assume that the software encapsulates the file for playback.

The stream once captured plays back on any Windows based computer. I haven't tried it on a Apple but i'm guessing it plays nicely on that platform as well. I'll give it a try and report back.

Yup. Sneaker net to the satellite campuses. 2 drives each.

Are you going to do the 2 video stream model, or just the one?

We were using Renewed Vision's Pro Video Sync to do the sync for playback. but it seemed that there was some artifacts in the playback.

Single video stream which would be the lockdown shot of the pastor projected on a center screen. Left and right screen would be powerpoint sermon notes.

So, would the Powerpoint be run at the satellite, or would it be a recorded stream from the main campus?

Only the pastor shot recorded in the stream. Powerpoint would be ran locally at the satellite.

Then you would not need to worry about syncing 2 devices together for playback. I would still recommend getting the Solid State Drives.

Anyone used the Black Magic recorder pro to take HD-sdi in with analog audio? I'm having trouble getting audio into the box. I did try composite in with analog, but it didn't seem to work.

We just started using a Blackmagis Studio Pro card in December. We take in video via HD-SDI and up to three channels of analog audio. We are using the Blackmagic Media Express software to record.

If that is the software you are using first in preferences select SDI Video & Analog XLR audio as your input then turn on the audio channel via the buttons below the meters before you capture with the white numbers below the meters. White = off, red = on.

Although a lot more expensive than a Ki Pro or the Black Magic products we have started using Cinedeck RX

http://www.cinedeck.com/images/02_RX/Cinedeck_RX_HR.pdf

In one deck you can have up to four removable 2.5" hard drives (we have four 480GB SSDs per Cinedeck RX), plus external drives hooked up if you wish. Each Cinedeck RX will record in TWO codecs via two encoders simultaneously. That means in real time you can record ProRes 422HQ and ProRes Proxy all within the same deck! Or you can record ProRes 422HQ and Avid DNxHD simultaneously all in the same deck. Or you can record 3D or two seperate HD signals (as in center screen and outboard screens) simultaneously all in one deck. It also records raw, Cineform and XDCAM codec.

Another cool thing is that in addition to the two encoders and codecs writing simultaneously it also records to a redundant drive (for each encoder) simultaneously. Thus why it has four internatl drives. This is a major fail-safe feature.

It handles two channels of analog audio OR one AES pair OR up to 16 channels of embedded audio total. The audio for encoder 1 must be the audio for encoder 2.

The drives pop out to go to post (without the Cinedeck RX) or you can use the Cinedeck to transfer files with USB2, USB3, eSATA and Gig-E connections.
