Recently purchased a MX70 with MXNavi, need help with titles

Hello i am new to this forum.

Long story short, we were using an outdated (more than 10 years old) Inscriber system, which was donated to us. It was used for posting lyrics, scriptures, sermon titles, and bullet points. At the time we were also using an analog Panasonic Mixer.

I basically talked our business manager into purchasing a Panasonic MX70 mixer with the hopes of using MX Navi as a Character Generator (aside from the fact that we were in need of a digital mixer over analog anyway).

Upon using MX Navi with files created in Photoshop (.psd files) I hit a slight brick wall, and would like to get some ideas on some workarounds or opinions on how to pull off simple titles.

thanks.

First-congrats on your first post.

Next-not familiar with the panasonic-but we're looking at renting one

is there a reason not to use worship software? Most of them have the capability of generating text on the fly, as well as lyrics, scripture support, videos, dvd's, ppt files, etc...and may be easier to train people on than the panasonic software.

we use easy worship, a lot here also use media shout, and there are many many others.

However, someone will probably be along to help you with this software if you want to go that way.

I'd like to use the MX Navi program, but I am interested in finding out what is needed to use software such as Easy Worship?

The Panasonic MX 70 comes with a USB port to hook it up to a laptop, so would this suffice? or would I need to get a "scan converter"?

I checked our equipment, and at the moment we are in possesion of a TVOne CS320, but it is already being used for another function outside of my grasp.

I'd like to know what could be done as opposed to purchasing another peripheral (such as another scan converter)?

thanks

Robert

depending on your laptop's outputs, you'd likely need a scan converter.

however, then you'd be able to use ppt right off the laptop, and also worship software, such as easy worship. I'd say its worth it, but it will be a different workflow than you're used to, that's for sure.

Unless someone already has scripture support built into the panasonic software?

Thanks for all of your help, and speedy responses.

As far as purchasing a "scan converter" would the TVOne CS320, suffice? or would I need another?

Also...

How would this peripheral connect to my MX 70? Would it be another input w/ alpha channels for overlay? Does this fall in the realm of that "different workflow"?

I'll let someone with recent experience with scan converters recommend something to you.

As for the different workflow-yes. Your pc becomes an additional input, to which you can add cameras, a dvd player, another pc, etc. depending on your configuration.

You can use black, blue, green, etc as a background color with text overalys (with or without lower thirds graphics or videos, for example), to key over other imagery (such as IMAG , dvd's, etc) on other inputs, using the key function to accomplish the overlay.

It's probably too late to be of any help now, but you don't need a scan converter to use Navi with the AG70. It is OEM software designed specifically to interact with the switcher.

Photoshop files should work fine- if they are fullscreen. Otherwise, what you need to do is create a blank background in Photoshop that is whatever dimension you want to work in (say 720 x 486). Create your title where you would like it, Command Click the layer (apple or control, whatever you're using) to select everything, then create an alpha channel. Save your title as a targa file instead of a photoshop file for it to recognize it correctly.

After that, load it into Navi, and build your preview. You can also go to properties and alter where it appears on the screen if it's not where you thought it would end up.

If you still need help with this, please feel free to contact me.

-Jason
