HELP!! Dual Swticher connection

Need help on how to have 2 switchers interfaced with each other. I want one switcher to control just CG stuff and the other will do my broadcast feed. I want to have my CG crew the ability to show song lyrics and sermons notes without me having to send it to the screen. I would assume the way to do this is to have a key set on main switcher and then have CG crew send to screen at their own will? I need help on how to connect the 2 switchers. I have Ross Synergy 100 and Echolab DV-7.

It sounds like you want to have two independent switchers: one for broadcast, the other for the screens in the sanctuary. You might need to get some video distribution amplifiers to send each source to the two switchers. That way, you have independent control of both "shows" that you are doing. I know that this setup can get complicated pretty fast. Are you sending camera feeds-IMAG to the screens? The more stuff you need to route, the more VDA's you'll need to do it right. Give us more details if you need any more input on this. Good luck!

Yes I am sending camera feed for IMAG. I want GC crew to be able to send sermon notes, songsd via their own switcher(Echolab DV-7). I was told that i could set a key on my synergy 100 then have them send what ever they want to the screens while i focus on directing. I just need to kow how to connect the 2 switchers together. Does anyone have this simular setup?

If your camera/broadcast switcher has an extra main video out, just send that to the "screen" switcher as one of its inputs. I'm not aware of all the ins and outs of these switchers. ( I have used "real" switchers in the past, but mostly now use the Videonics/Edirol small & inexpensive type.) Then they could switch what they wanted onto the screens, or key stuff over video, whatever. They would have to take whichever camera you had punched up on your switcher, unless they had maybe a seperate input for the main pulpit cam, which is probably what you want on IMAG screens most of the time. No audience shots on the screens is most always a good rule. Just out of curiousity, what kind of computer video setup do you use? Video card with composite video out? Scan converter? Or what?

Thanks

Rob

YOu can do it by chaining them together but I think it would be best if you just DA'd the feeds and made them totally independant of one another. That way even though it requires more initial wiring and organization, in the long run it gives more flexibility. I have our church set up with 2 switchers, 1 for broadcast rec and the other for IMAG. We use EasyWorship for IMAG to put up full sreen graphics, while the broadcast only gets lower 3rds. We have it set up that either switcher can go to the IMAG screens or the broadcast record in case something goes down also.
Again, it may be a bit more complex but the flexibility is really cool to have.

Here's what I have:

In the Projection booth, I have a switcher/scaler that sends a signal to the projector(s) and to a scan converter then to the mixer in the Broadcast booth.

In the Broadcast booth, I take a live feed just ahead of the "recorders" and feed that into my switcher/scaler.

With this set-up, I can project anything that the broadcast guys are producing, and at the same time, they can broadcast anything that I am sending to the screen, no matter where the source might be, ie: computer(s), vcr, dvd or whathaveyou.

Hey Carl,
I love the furniture. Cool chair! Looks kinda uncomfortable, though!
Yeah, having totally independent switchers gives you the most flexibility.

Thanks! Can you explain more in detail. I have a Echolab DV-7 that I would like to use just for IMAG and use my Ross Synergy for broadcast. Can I use a video out from Ross to Echolab then have Echolab send CG to screens?

here's what i do, i have an Mx-70 with 6 cameras coming into it that i switch for IMAG. Then on my Mx-50, i take a feed off the Mx-70 and use the luminance key for adding my lyrics. This doesn't give you a different feed for broadcast versus Imag but you really want two separate set ups for that anyways. But this way, you can record your live camera feed without hte lyrics if you need it. just some thoughts.....
