Which one do you need?
I think he's trying to say he already HAS a scaler... he just needs a scan converter to put the image from the scaler onto videotape.

Re: Scan Converters: From Computer to Video

Here is a thread about a Buyers Guide for this sort of format conversion. It compares many dfferent models. The scan converters are on Page 8.

Best regards,

I hope this is the proper forum for this question. I can identify wholeheartedly with everyone in this community that is striving to do the best you can with a less than top notch budget! I appreciate JosephB's comment regarding God's provision of what is needed. Amen! Now to the question. We use an older Toshiba laptop to present our slides via the video projector. We also have an Averkey 500 scan converter to allow us to route the video image to an RCA switcher (S-video), which in turn sends the image to our VCR for recording (s-video) and a TV in the lobby (coaxial). The image in the lobby is fine, but our video recordings are now in black and white! We have an older JVC SVHS VCR which produces a very crisp image for VHS tape format. Have any of you experienced this or similar problems? We tried a KWorld scan converter, but the computer image on our recordings faded in and out of sync with the video image. The Averkey provides a fairly stable image, but not in color! Is our scan converter the culprit or is the VCR to blame? Thanks.

If you are using s-video it sounds like a bad cable. A bad s-video cable can cause a black and white image. Try changing out the cable from the (whatever) to the VCR and see what happens.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try it this week. I had to laugh when I read the "(whatever)." It is a consumer grade (yes, I know.....) video input selector made by RCA that allows us to switch the signal that is sent to the VCR between our camera, the dvd/playback vcr and the laptop. It accepts composite or s-video signals, and also is an RF modulator for our lobby and nursery TV's.

It must have been a loose connection or a short in the s-video cable from the "whatever" to the VCR. I disconnected all the s-video cables between the scan converter and the VCR, tested them with only the camera signal, switched them around and they all worked fine. After reconnecting everything (one new cable to be safe) we now have a full color image on video tape. Thanks for the help!

Keying Problems

On my video mixer - Panasonic WJ-MX20 Digital AV Mixer (discontinued wow... have I been in this that long lol)

I am having problems keying out stuff... I am using song show in a lower third with a bright green solid

I can key out most of the green but there are still green lines around everything...

I am running a s-video out of the scan converter into the board.

Any clue what the problem is?
