The $2K Projector Search

Our projectors are going out and we are looking for some new projectors. Our current 10 year old projectors are 2000 lumens. They are very dim and you miss a lot of images on the screen. So we are looking to replace them.

Anyone have any suggestions? We want to keep it under $2K for each projector.

We worship in a gymnasium that has the typical vapor lights. On Sundays we turn those off and have banks of can lights that dim through out the service. We use an 8ft X 10ft screen and the projectors are 17 feet away. The audience is at most 80 feet away from the screen.

I would look at the Sanyo PLC-XU106 or 116. Great units, they have the proper throw ratio, 4000 and 4500 lumens respectively and under $2k (well under for the XU106).

The BenQ SP870 is also in your price range and would work at 5K lumens.

I agree, something in the 4-5K lumen range sounds right. You'll be absolutely amazed how much brighter they are. We just upgraded from 2Ks to 3Ks, and that difference was much more than I expected.

I have been very pleased with our Hitachi CP-WX625 projectors. We have four in our sanctuary and two in our Children's church. They have a 16:10 native aspect ratio plus HDMI input, so if you're not doing HD now, they'll serve you well if/when you convert.
