HDMI to VGA

Hi,

Our new computer has a HDMI output... projector has VGA input. I'm having a hard time finding an adaptor for this. Any ideas?

Thanks.

You probably need a scaler, not just an adapter. I've heard TVone.com has good consumer grade boxes. But I don't know if they'd have what you need.

Try StarTech'a website.

They have a DVI-D to VGA converter/scaler for $350 and a HDMI to DVI-D adapter for $20.

I have seen cheaper versions of each out there, but StarTech's gear is reliable.

Are you able to dictate the resolution of the output on the HDMI output and are you sure it's independent of the main display?
If both are true, the Kramer FC-47 is an HDMI to DVI-D and SPDIF converter. You wouldn't need the SPDIF audio. Then you can use a DVI-D to VGA adaptor.

Just to give you some other background info on this, an actual cable with both ends on it is not possible. VGA is analog while HDMI is digital. So it would take a scaler or a converter (as mentioned previously in this thread) to change the signal over from digital to analog.

It will cost less to put a VGA card in the computer.

Yes, this is the route we are pursuing... actually a dual video card that has both seems to be the best solution.

Thanks.
